Why does nothing happen when I click to view any software or text pieces or some movies?

This article applies to:

Workstation OS: Microsoft Windows (98 or higher)
Browser versions: all
A common cause for this problem is the use of pop-up blocking software. All software pieces and some of the movies are opened up in a separate window or Pop-up window. Text pieces are also opened in pop-up windows depending on the internet browser you are using and the way acrobat reader is set up on your computer.

So if a pop-up blocker is running, this will prevent the new window from opening. The two most common pop-up blockers are from Google and Yahoo. Google’s pop-up blocker can be identified by their change in the mouse cursor, the arrow changes to a little yellow star with and exclamation mark in it. Yahoo also changes its cursor into a little red letter 'Y'. Some pop-up blockers also play a funny sound.

Some pop-up blockers include a clever facility where you can specify to allow pop-ups on certain sites. By inserting a URL in this section, pop-ups will then be allowed, thus resolving your problem. The other alternative is to uninstall the pop-up blocking program, but this will allow pop-ups on all web sites.

Please use this link, provided by Yahoo, which you can use to test whether you have a pop up blocker running. (Keep in mind that if the yahoo site is put in the "allow pop-ups" section as described above this pop-up may work, but it is a useful tool to test other pop-up blocking software)

Another site to try is

Once on this site, you can run through a number of different types of tests. The standard test is one of the tests and runs through 9 different types of pop-ups and checks whether they are being blocked by a pop-up blocker or not. If the result of the test appears as 'Test OK', this means that a pop-up blocker is running and is preventing pop-ups from being displayed. This will be the reason some of the features or resources are not running correctly.

The reason for pop-up blockers is to prevent unwanted ads from appearing. Here is a link to a program which searches for pop-up software and spy-ware installed on your computer and gives you the option to remove them. This program is free to use.
